Greening, landscaping project moves along at Lakeside Academy

MONTREAL - Spring has sprung, the trees are re-leaved and, on May 11, the students at Lakeside Academy continued planting the seeds for their future green space.

These busy bees have had no time for spring cleaning (sorry, mom and dad!) as they continued to brainstorm and draft designs following the inaugural workshop at the Lachine high school in April.

The plot thickened earlier in May as the class was instructed to select images of trees, plants, and flowers, before putting together a mood board that included a layout of the school's property and the three designated development areas, because all good things come in trees.

"Through the workshops, the students will learn the importance of this greening project and the positive effects it will have on the environment," said Angela Troli, Community Development Agent at Lakeside Academy. "They will also be learning how to work as a team by having group discussions and making decisions about how and where to best place certain plants and outdoor furniture while keeping in harmony with the project vision."

Thirty-five trees, 40 shrubs and 20 square meters of flower beds are included in the planting plan and will certainly make this space so fresh and so green, green.

The canadiens.com crew will check on the students at the next workshop on May 25 ahead of the scheduled planting day on June 6.
