Art Therapy

Blues for Kids celebrated its partnership with Friends of Kids with Cancer’s Art Therapy program by hosting patients, families, staff, and art therapists at Enterprise Center for a recent morning skate.

Attendees, ranging in age from 3 to 21, had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast, watch practice, and meet Blues captain Brayden Schenn. All patient attendees are active participants in Friends’ art therapy program, which allows pediatric cancer patients and their siblings to use art materials as a way of navigating the difficult emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis at Cardinal Glennon, Mercy, and St. Louis Children’s hospitals.

Practice

Friends of Kids with Cancer is currently in their second year of a three-year Captain’s Grant partnership with Blues for Kids, in which they receive $50,000 annually in support of their art therapy program. Young artists from the organization contributed to a collaged art piece that can be seen hanging in the Blues for Kids section of Enterprise Center outside of Portal 15.

Art created through the partnership last year will be auctioned off on Wednesday, April 10. Proceeds from the auction that night will benefit Friends of Kids with Cancer. All auctions through Blues for Kids can be found at blues.givesmart.com.
