THE MATCHUP
BLUES Brendan Gallagher's goal with 11 seconds left in the third period broke a 2-2 tie and kept the Blues from getting a point on Wednesday night in Montreal.
The loss dropped the Blues to 1-3-2 on the season, a disappointing start for a team that entered the season with such high expectations.
"I mean, it's a tough one to lose, but we weren't any good tonight," Brayden Schenn said after the game. "We almost snuck out a point there, maybe two, but as a team, I don't think we deserve to win hockey games (right now). We've got to start playing hard for one another. Little details of the game matter."
The Blues had two days of practice in Toronto at the Coca-Cola Coliseum - home of the AHL's Toronto Marlies - to work on the little details before Saturday's matchup.
MAPLE LEAFS Matt Murray and the Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-0 at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night. Murray made 38 saves to hand Toronto just its second loss of the season.
The Leafs, who are 6-2-0, remain the top team in the Eastern Conference with 12 points. Despite being shutout Thursday, the Maple Leafs led the League on Friday afternoon with 33 goals this season.
Offensively, Head Coach Mike Babcock has weapons aplenty. John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and Patrick Marleau lead the forwards, and even the defense is chipping in with offense: Morgan Rielly ranks second on the team with 13 points and Jake Gardiner has five.
