The Caps in School Writing Program is designed to encourage students to fine-tune their skills and focus their writing while building confidence and gaining experience. All students in grades 1 through 8 within a 75-mile radius of Capital One Arena are welcome to participate. Only one entry per student will be accepted.

The Caps in School Writing Program is now open through March 1st, 2024.

Please choose one of the following prompts for your essay submissions. Essay submissions should be no more than 500 words and a parent/legal guardian must submit on a child’s behalf.

One winner will be selected from grades 1-5 and one winner will be chosen from grades 6-8.

Communication 

Communication is a big part of success in sports and life! In your essay, tell us why talking with your teammates, classmates, and others is important.

  • How does communication help in working as a team, being a good sport, and succeeding together?
  • Share a story about a time when talking made a big difference in your life and helped you be successful!

Working through setbacks

Everyone faces setbacks in life and sports. How does working through tough moments, like losing a game or getting a bad grade, make you stronger?

  • Tell us about a time when you or someone you know didn’t give up and made a big comeback!
  • Explain how learning from mistakes and keeping a positive attitude can lead to success.
