The inaugural Wranglers season started with its share of adversity early on for the team.
The club suffered losses out of the gate but, as they say, adversity builds character and character is something this Wranglers team has by the bushelful, as they responded with back-to-back wins in their next two games.

The group has lots of experience, too. When the team moved from Stockton to Calgary during the offseason, the Wranglers retained a large contingent of their core players - a group that just recently won the AHL's Pacific Division title the previous season with a record of 45-16-7.
Matthew Phillips is coming off a career year in 2021-22, where he scored 31 goals and 68 points in 65 games with the Heat. The Calgary kid looks poised to surpass that this season with the Wranglers, currently leading the team in scoring with four goals and eight points in his first six games.
A notable new addition to the group this season is captain Brett Sutter. Entering his 17th professional season, the stalwart veteran brings an undeniable wealth of experience to the locker-room. He's averaging a point-per-game so far, with a goal and five assists in his first six games.
It's still early, so for Sutter and his teammates, the focus is simple.
"Just make sure we're getting better every night," Sutter expressed. "I thought (in) both games, we stuck together. I thought we played a heavier, harder game; kind of more of the Flames style of game, so-to-speak. So if we stick to those details, play hard and heavy and use all four lines, we're going to be a good team."

'PUCK' STOPS WITH WOLF

Dustin Wolf became the first Flames prospect to be named the recipient of the AHL's Aldege 'Baz' Bastien Memorial Award last season, which is presented annually to the AHL's most outstanding goalie.
"Coming into the season, I expect myself to give the team a chance to win every night," he explained. "I put expectations on myself that are maybe a little higher than they need to be, but I strive to be the best and I think that's the mindset you have (to have) heading into each and every season."
Wolf (2-1-0) has won both of his last two starts.

QUOTABLE:

Wranglers head coach Mitch Love on Zary:
"(Zary has) been chomping at the bit to help produce offensively for us, that's part of his job. If you looked at his goals, where he scored them from, part of the powerplay and then just near the net on 5-on-5, that's where you've got to go to score goals. Especially when you're not getting maybe as much done offensively as you'd like, you've got to go to the hard areas. It's painful to score goals sometimes if you're going to those areas. So I'm sure it gave (Zary) a little bit of confidence heading into the weekend and we're going to need him and some other guys to step up."
