Denis Potvin scores his 271st NHL goal to surpass Bobby Orr as the top-scoring defenseman in NHL history

Jan. 28, 1986 - Denis Potvin scores his 271st NHL goal, surpassing Bobby Orr as the top goal-scoring defenseman in league history.
The former captain of the Islanders notched his 271st-career goal in the Isles' eventual and dominante 9-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Potvin had previously passed Orr's mark for points for a defenseman on Dec. 20, 1985. Potvin completed his 15-year Hall of Fame NHL career with 310 career goals and 1,052 points throughout 1,060 NHL games. He was the NHL's highest-scoring defenseman at the time of his retirement.
