June 20, 2018 -Following his superb rookie season where he amassed 85 points (22G, 63A), Mathew Barzal became the fifth player in franchise history to have his name engraved in the Calder Memorial Trophy. The award is annually presented to the to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League.

Barzal burst onto the scene as a rookie, leading all first-year players in assists and points, while finishing tied for 13th in NHL scoring overall. Barzal had three five-point games during his rookie campaign.

Peca-Selke

June 20, 2002 - Michael Peca becomes the first Islander to win the Frank J. Selke Trophy and earns the honors for the second time in his career. The award is annually a forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game.
During his first season with the Islanders, Peca totaled 60 points (25G, 35A) in 80 games. That season the Islanders also returned to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in seven years. Peca and the Isles lost (4-3) in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
June 20, 1972 -Phil Goyette retires after a 16-year NHL career with the Canadiens, Blues, Sabres and Rangers, to become the Islanders' first Head Coach. Goyette's tenure was short-lived, as he was fired after going 6-38-4 through 48 games and replaced by Earl Ingarfield.

Bailey_Draft_Day_2

June 20, 2008 - The Islanders select Josh Bailey ninth overall in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft held at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. Twelve years later, Bailey is the longest-tenured Islander on the team, is fifth in franchise history in games played (865) and is on pace to set the franchise's games played record. Bailey is 13th in team history with 476 points (154G, 322A).
June 20, 1994 - Lorne Henning is named the fifth Head Coach in team history. Henning's tenue is also short-lived, going 15-28-5 during the lockout-shortened 1994-95 season.
