Rick DiPietro is signed to the longest contract in franchise history at 15 years

Sept. 12, 2006 - The Islanders and Rick DiPietro agreed to terms on a 15-year contract extension marking the longest contract deal in franchise history.

Selected first overall at the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, DiPietro was coming off of a breakout season where he became the third goaltender in franchise history and the youngest to record 30 wins, finishing just two wins shy of the club record held by Bill Smith. His record during the 2005-06 season was 30-24-5 with a 3.02 GAA and a .900 save percentage.
The Winthrop, Massachussetts native spent a total of 11 years with the Islanders and compiled a career record of 130-136-36, a 2.87 GAA, a .902 save percentage and 16-career shutouts.
DiPietro represented Team USA at the 2006 Winter Olympics and was also selected for the 2008 NHL All-Star Game as the Islanders representative.
