The year 2018 is going to go down as a pretty spectacular one for Alex Ovechkin.

After winning his first Stanley Cup championship with the Washington Capitals 72 days earlier, the forward became a first-time dad Saturday when wife Anastasia gave birth to a son, Sergei Aleksandrovich Ovechkin.
The proud parents each shared the news on Instagram with a picture of Sergei's tiny foot.
Alex's post had a message that translates to, "Thank you, my girl for the best day in my life!!!!"
Anastasia marked the occasion with hashtags that translate to, "#welcometothisworld #ourbaby."

Sergei is also the name of Alex's late brother, and the baby's middle name follows the Russian practice of adding the suffix -ovich to the father's first name.
Alex famously
showed a whole range of emotions
during the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It's safe to say there will be a whole lot more now that he's a dad.
