Roy was sent back to San Diego of the American Hockey League on Monday but was recalled Tuesday because of a knee injury sustained by Ducks right wing Corey Perry.
"I got to go to dinner, then they called me to come back," Roy said. "I was pretty happy. It felt pretty good to get the win here and make a difference. A big win here to start the road trip.
"I try to come here, make a difference and make the best of my chances."

The 24-year-old played in his 16th NHL game on a line with Ryan Getzlaf and Jakob Silfverberg.
"We didn't know he was going to do a U-turn on the [highway]," Carlyle said. "We knew he'd be a better player when he came back. He's still a young guy cutting his teeth and he's got a huge learning curve."
The Ducks (14-11-7) are 3-0-1 in the past four games and have a point in six straight (3-0-3). Andrew Cogliano scored, and John Gibson made 29 saves.
Patrik Berglund scored for St. Louis (21-10-2), and Jake Allen made 15 saves. The Blues have been outscored 6-1 losing two in a row at home.
"We can play more desperate to get more bodies in front of the net," Berglund said. "It looked like we got a lot of shots blocked today too (19). We've got to be more desperate, especially at home. We've just got bear down and play better hockey."
Roy scored twice in a 2:45 span in the third period. He made it 2-0 at 5:43 and 3-0 at 8:28. Cogliano scored his first goal in 23 games when he took Rickard Rakell's backhand pass and banked in a shot at 11:11 of the second period for a 1-0 lead.
Berglund ended Gibson's shutout with a goal at 14:07 of the third period to make it 3-1. It was St. Louis' first goal in 114:07 after being shut out by the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-0 on Tuesday.

They said it

"We know where they are in the standings (leading the Western Conference) and how good of a team they are. They bring out the best in us." -- Ducks left wing Andrew Cogliano
"You have to credit our penalty killing with a stellar night (4-for-4). We held a pretty good power play off the score sheet. I think our goaltender was strong in the nets and I think we played kind of a tidy road game. We didn't give much up." -- Ducks coach Randy Carlyle
"It's execution again. We've been trying to manage the rest here and making sure. Obviously we're playing a lot of games in a lot of days, and with that, obviously we've lacked some practice time. We're going to hit the ice [Friday] and just the opportunity to get out there and execute the day before the game [Saturday], that will help." -- Blues coach Mike Yeo on their lack of scoring
"I don't really know if there's a certain thing you can point at. I think it's just kind of one way it doesn't go our way, and I think the guys coming out for the next shift aren't picking it up after those guys. I think it's just not the kind of hockey St. Louis plays. The way we came into that game was kind of the way we came into that game [Tuesday] against Tampa. We were in it until the third and the goals that we gave up were all pretty preventable." -- Blues defenseman Vince Dunn
