EDMONTON, AB -Wednesday's Oilers practice saw Head Coach Todd McLellan emphasize zone exits from behind the goal-line, having his players simulate the strategy to employ when breaking out.
The decision to focus on the corner exits came from Tuesday's match against Winnipeg. Jets forward Adam Lowry converted twice on two separate botched plays in the Oilers corner, causing McLellan to go over the on-ice scenario.
McLellan said the goal in that situation is to play close together and have players properly support one another.
"In those situations, we were talking about close support when we had the puck and the ability to come out of our end a lot cleaner than we did early in the game last night," McLellan said. "They had a heavy forecheck and we weren't really clean on the execution."
