Sabres team scope

Coach Dan Bylsma will try to become the 47th NHL coach to win 300 regular-season games when the Buffalo Sabres look for their third straight win. Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen scored 42 seconds into overtime to give Buffalo a 3-2 win against the New York Islanders at KeyBank Center on Friday. "It's a huge win," forward Kyle Okposo said. "You're going to have games where you're not at your best, and you got to find a way to win those. That's what good teams do. You're going to have some off nights. I thought that we definitely weren't at our best tonight." The Sabres are 5-2-1 in their past eight games.

Hurricanes team scope

The Carolina Hurricanes saw their seven-game home winning streak end on Friday with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals. Cam Ward, who made 23 saves, is expected to start in goal against the Sabres. "There's ways of making it easier on ourselves," center Jordan Staal said. "I don't think we did a terrible job. We hit a few posts in the third. We were moving our feet and still making plays. The rest is what it is." The Hurricanes are 4-5-3 in their past 12 games and continue a four-game homestand.
