Bishop, Khudobin help Stars shut out Flames

DALLAS --Ben Bishop and Anton Khudobin combined to make 24 saves for the Dallas Stars in a 2-0 win against the Calgary Flames at American Airlines Center on Tuesday.

It was 67th combined shutout in NHL history and the first in Stars/Minnesota North Stars history.
Jamie Benn and Radek Faksa scored for Dallas (17-14-3), which has won five straight at home.

Khudobin, who made three saves, replaced Bishop at 13:37 of the second period, a little after Bishop was hit behind the net by Flames forward Garnet Hathaway, who received a penalty for goalie interference.

Bishop returned at the beginning of the third period after passing the NHL's concussion protocol during the second intermission.
"It's a little easier with the intermission there," Bishop said. "I kind of regrouped and got ready for the third.
"We knew we had a tough road trip there (lost four straight). You've got to stop that as fast as you can. With [Calgary] coming in 9-1-1 in their last 11, we were ready."

David Rittich made 26 saves for Calgary (22-11-2), which had won three in a row and was shut out for the second time in its past five games.
"They were doing a good job of killing a lot of plays coming over their line," Flames defenseman Travis Hamonic said. "It just seemed kind of sloppy, maybe for both team at times."
Benn gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 12:15 of the first period when Tyler Seguin's cross-crease pass redirected in off his right skate. The goal moved him into fifth in Stars/North Stars history with 268.

Faksa extended the lead to 2-0 at 17:17 of the second period. After Martin Hanzal's shot from the left circle was blocked by Flames defenseman Mark Giordano, Faksa collected the loose puck at the top of the crease and scored on a backhand.
"I just had two guys going after [Hanzal], so I tried to go to the net and it bounced to me," said Faksa, who moved from center to wing to play on Hanzal's line. "I saw the goalie go (for the) poke check, and I got kind of lucky I made it."
Flames forwards Sam Bennett and James Neal each missed the game with an upper-body injury. Calgary dressed 11 forwards and seven defensemen.
Dalton Prout took four of his five shifts in the third period when Oliver Kylington was moved to forward.
"We weren't having much success with the way we were playing," Flames coach Bill Peters said. "So we changed lines and wanted to go just 12 (forwards) and six (defensemen). Did a little better."

The four players with more goals for the Stars/North Stars are Mike Modano (557), Brian Bellows (342), Dino Ciccarelli (332) and Neal Broten (274). ... Neal was sent back to Calgary, where he will be re-evaluated Wednesday. … Stars forward Jason Spezza (illness) didn't play. … Benn has 32 points (17 goals, 15 assists) in 30 games against the Flames. … Dallas is 14-1-1 when leading after two periods.
