The two-time defending NHL scoring champion became the fifth player to reach 40 points this season (15 goals, 25 assists). He has points in 24 of the 28 games he's played this season. The only other player who has appeared in at least 20 games and has been held pointless on just four occasions is Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov, who has 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists) in 22 games.
McDavid has at least one point in 24 of Edmonton's 29 games this season -- he missed the Oilers' 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Monday because of illness. McDavid is the fifth different player in Oilers history to have at least one point in 24 of Edmonton's first 29 team games, joining Wayne Gretzky (seven times), Mark Messier (twice), Jari Kurri and Glenn Anderson.
It was the 21-year-old center's 33rd game with at least three points since entering the NHL in 2015-16. Only five players have had more such performances before their 22nd birthday. Gretzky (108) has the most.

Allen moves up on Blues goaltending lists

Jake Allen made 26 saves for his 17th NHL shutout
in the St. Louis Blues' 1-0 victory
against the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place. Allen passed Hockey Hall of Famer Glenn Hall to move into third place on the Blues' all-time shutout list behind Brian Elliott (25) and Jaroslav Halak (20).
It was the 125th win of Allen's NHL career, all with the Blues. He's third in team history behind Mike Liut (151) and Curtis Joseph (137).

Stars, Hurricanes ride quick strikes to victory

The Dallas Stars and Carolina Hurricanes each scored twice in less than two minutes during the third period to earn wins.
Rookie defenseman Miro Heiskanen and forward Brett Ritchie scored 1:48 apart in the third period to lift the Stars to their fourth straight victory, 3-2 against the San Jose Sharks at American Airlines Center. Ritchie's second goal of the season was the game-winner, his second in as many games. He's the fourth Stars player since 2015-16 to score the game-winning goal in back-to-back games, joining Alexander Radulov (Oct. 27-30, 2017), Jamie Benn (Feb. 18-24, 2017) and Jason Spezza (Nov. 17-19, 2015). Five of Ritchie's 31 NHL goals have been game-winners.
Defenseman Brett Pesce and forward Justin Williams scored 1:01 apart in the third period to spark the Hurricanes to a 4-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center, ending Anaheim's five-game winning streak. Hurricanes rookie forward Clark Bishop, playing in his 11th NHL game, scored his first goal in the second period and assisted on the goal by Williams.
