Minten signs 7-year, $50.4 million contract with Bruins

Fraser Minten signed a seven-year, $50.4 million contract with the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. The deal begins next season and has an average annual value of $7.2 million.

The 22-year-old forward, who could have been a restricted free agent after this season, set NHL career highs in goals (17), assists (18) and points (35) in 82 games in 2025-26. His 35 points were the most by a Bruins rookie since Danton Heinen (47) and Jake DeBrusk (43) in 2017-18. 

"Super excited to be a Bruin here for the next seven years," Minten said. "I was hoping, through exit meetings (last season), I got the sense that there'd be an offer potentially coming through from (Bruins general manager) Don (Sweeney), so once the calendar turned and I was eligible for that I was expecting to hear something and I was happy it came out the way it did.

"I've loved everything since I've been here, the fans, the city, the organization, the culture that's here, the history of winning. We've got the belief here that we can get to that again, so super happy to get signed up for a long time and get a chance to do that."

Sweeney said Minten was deserving of a lengthy commitment.

"We are excited to have signed Fraser to a long-term extension," Sweeney said. "Since joining our organization, Fraser has continued to grow and earn the accelerated trust of his teammates and coaching staff. His hockey sense, competitiveness, responsible two-way game, and offensive growth make him a valuable player for our group. This is a mutual long-term commitment that reflects our confidence in Fraser and the important role he will play, as well as Fraser's belief in our team moving forward."

Minten said his new contract will not affect his approach to his job.

"I think I want to have a good camp, start the year off right," he said. "(I'm) still pretty fresh in this league, so I've got a long way to go to establish myself as a long-term core guy who's really valuable to the team, so just continue with the process and continue to improve."

Minten also led rookies in plus/minus (plus-21), which ranked second on the Bruins, and was fifth on the team in hits (142) and takeaways (27). He was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for January after leading first-year players in goals (eight) and tying for the lead in points (14). 

He was asked how much a step forward he would be able to take this season.

"It's hard to quantify exactly ... but I think I can continue to improve for sure," he said. "Want to be a guy who can produce more offense and create more goals. Obviously every team wants that and it would be great if I could be able to provide that.

"... You get respect through your actions, not through your contract, so ... continue to work hard and be a good teammate and gain the respect of everyone and become a leader that way." 

Minten was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round (No. 38) of the 2022 NHL Draft and traded to the Bruins in the deal that sent defenseman Brandon Carlo to Toronto on March 7, 2025.
