"I have not spoken with our medical staff about Brian Dumoulin," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "[Letang] is fine."
Letang, who did not speak to the media after the game, was slow to get up and headed to the locker room after being driven into the left corner boards by Callahan 2:50 into the first period. But he returned to the bench with 7:35 remaining in the period and finished the game.
Callahan received a five-minute major penalty for boarding but remained in the game. He could be subject to further discipline from the NHL's Department of Player Safety before Game 2 on Monday (8 p.m. ET: NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).
"I'm trying to ride him in there, obviously, on the forecheck and, unfortunately, he turns at the last second," Callahan said. "I'm committed, I think, and when he turns his head and his body is pretty low. I'm trying to pin him and in that split second I can't really make a decision. Unfortunately, the position that he was in made it worse than it was and it was good to see him come back. Obviously, you don't want to see anybody injured and that's not what you're trying to do.
"That's not the way I play. I've never been fined or suspended, so I take a lot of pride in that to be an honest player and it was good to see that he came back."
Dumoulin was also slow to get up after being shoved from behind by Palat and appearing to hit his head on the end boards behind the Pittsburgh net. He eventually got up and was guided off the ice and to the locker room. He also was not available to speak to the media after the game.
Palat received a two-minute minor for boarding.
When asked about Callahan's and Palat's hits, Sullivan said, "They're hits from behind."
