Hyman TOR

Welcome to the 2018 preseason! NHL training camps are open and preseason games are under way.
This is a busy time, with rookies looking to make a name for themselves and veterans trying to lock down roster spots. Each day we will have all the updates of note right here.
Here is the training camp news for Saturday:

Hyman out with hip injury for Maple Leafs

Forward Zach Hyman will be out for a few days with what Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock is calling a hip pointer, though he said it's not considered serious.
"He got cross checked in the hip," Babcock said after the Maple Leafs defeated the Buffalo Sabres 5-3 at Scotiabank Arena on Friday. "He's fine. He'll be off for a little bit but you get better quick."
Hyman left the game in the second period and did not return. Forward Josh Leivo took his place on a line with John Tavares and Mitchell Marner.
"Josh can skate, has great instincts and a tremendous shot," said Tavares, who scored two goals for the second straight game. "We had some chances … he did some good things. We have so much depth, so much creativity, guys that can move up in the lineup and make an impact. If someone goes down, there's plenty of guys who can move up." -- Mike Zeisberger

Flyers being cautious with Gostisbehere

Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere left the Philadelphia Flyers preseason game against the New York Islanders with an undisclosed injury and didn't return for the third period. General manager Ron Hextall said that the move was made for precautionary reasons.
Gostisbehere scored a goal in the first period of a 3-2 overtime loss in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was on the ice for practice Saturday. The Flyers don't play again until Monday, when they host the Boston Bruins.
Hextall also said he expects goaltender Michal Neuvirth to miss time after sustaining a groin injury during practice on Friday. Neuvirth struggled with a lower-body injury last season and had hip surgery in April.

Coyotes light up the middle for game vs. Ducks

The Arizona Coyotes could be shorthanded at center when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
The Coyotes will be without Alex Galchenyuk, who sustained a lower-body injury Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings, a game in which he scored two goals.
"Alex is going to meet with our medical team," coach Rick Tocchet said after practice Friday. "He's had some evaluation, [but] we'll know something next week with him ... From experience with injuries, every player's different. Some guys [take] longer than others [to recover]."
In addition to Galchenyuk, centers Christian Dvorak (lower body), Dylan Strome (upper body) and Barrett Hayton (upper body) are dealing with injuries.
"There's some bingo balls in there, I'll tell you that," Tocchet said. "Hey, that's the world we live in. I know it's the corny cliche, 'Next man up.' But there's opportunities for some younger guys to get in there. It's just one of those things. Hopefully (they will) hold the fort until the cavalry comes back."
