PHI@WPG: Wheeler scores SHG on breakaway

WINNIPEG -- Seven Winnipeg Jets scored and Mark Scheifele had three assists in a 7-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Bell MTS Place on Sunday.

Josh Morrissey had a goal and two assists, Tyler Myers had a goal and an assist, and Patrik Laine and Nikolaj Ehlers each had two assists for the Jets (18-9-2), who have won five of six games. Connor Hellebuyck made 36 saves.
"Honestly, that was pretty ugly from our group," Myers said. "It goes to show that we're able to put the puck in the net. We got a little bit better after the first period but certainly didn't like the first. Bucky made a lot of good saves to weather their storm, and we were able to capitalize on a lot of our chances."

Jakub Voracek scored for the Flyers (12-13-3), who won 6-2 at the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday but have lost eight of their past 11 (3-6-2).
Michal Neuvirth started for Philadelphia but was pulled at 7:31 of the second period after allowing three goals on 10 shots. Anthony Stolarz made 21 saves in relief.
"I think when you're down you start changing your game, start to create more," Flyers forward Claude Giroux said of the goalie change. "It could work. We've seen it in the past work but sometimes, like tonight, we see it just gets worse."
Kyle Connor scored to put the Jets ahead 1-0 at 11:38 of the first period.

Morrissey, who returned after missing two games because of a lower-body injury, extended the lead to 2-0, scoring on a shot from the point on the power play at 14:36.
Voracek pulled the Flyers to within 2-1 when he scored on a deflection at 17:34.
"They came with a great effort in the first period," Morrissey said. "Although we were up 2-1 we didn't love our first as a whole, but usually you're not going to dominate an entire 60 minutes, so when they had their push [Hellebuyck] made some big saves, really some huge saves actually, and kept us right there. And then we got going in the second and third. Like I said, it was a big win for us."
Brandon Tanev restored Winnipeg's two-goal lead when he scored on the rebound of a Morrissey shot at 7:31 of the second period.
"We had a great start and we were all over them and their goalie made a couple big saves," Neuvirth said.
Dustin Byfuglien made it 4-1 on the power play at 14:31, and Blake Wheeler made it 5-1 on a shorthanded breakaway at 15:59, giving him 15 shorthanded points in his NHL career, a Jets/Atlanta Thrashers record. Marian Hossa and Eric Perrin each had 14.

"We had a good talk at the intermission and we stepped up our game and it showed," Scheifele said.
Flyers defenseman Robert Hagg was given a game misconduct after checking Connor from behind at 19:12.
Bryan Little made it 6-1 at 1:41 of the third period on the power play, and Myers scored at 8:03 for the 7-1 final score.

They said it

"Every game for us is critical no matter where we are or who we're playing against. They have a good team. We lost. We got scored on seven times. Obviously it's not a good result, but Wednesday is a new game. We got to focus on that."-- Flyers forward Jakub Voracek
"I relaxed a bit. I was gripping it a bit tight. I got a lot better at my foundation over the summer. What I'm used to feeling I'm not really feeling anymore. I can do so much more, so I started to fight a little bit harder for it. Now I can relax and let things kind of sink into place. It kind of helped me find my groove." -- Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck on getting his game back on track
