Gritty meets Flyers coach Vigneault, proposes with sparkling whistle

Alain Vigneault being named coach of the Philadelphia Flyers wasn't official until it was Gritty official.

The famed orange mascot sealed the deal Thursday when he got down on one knee and proposed to Vigneault with a shiny new whistle. He then sent Gritty's heart aflutter when he accepted and showed his gift off for the cameras.

Vigneault was hired Monday as the Flyers coach, replacing interim coach Scott Gordon. He
spoke Thursday
about wanting to check winning a Stanley Cup championship off his bucket list after a couple of close calls during his 16 seasons as coach of the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens, but he's already started his tenure with some impressive new hardware.
