Throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, NHL.com writers will be sending postcards from the eight first-round series. Today, staff writer Tracey Myers checks in from Winnipeg, Manitoba:

Greetings from a Whiteout!

No, I’m not in the midst of a blizzard in April. The Winnipeg weather is a balmy 60 degrees and sunny. I’m talking about the Whiteout party that’s happening around Canada Life Centre heading into Game 1 of the Western Conference First Round between the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche.

The party had a 5,000-person limit and according to the CBC, tickets sold out within an hour of going on sale. The festivities began at 4 p.m. local time, approximately two hours before Game 1, and lines formed around several blocks with people looking to get into the party.

I love how creative fans got. Sure, most went with the tried-and-true white Jets jerseys, but others went a few steps further. One guy dressed like a yeti, with white streamers attached to a white robe. Another guy completed his look with a white mask. Very Jason-like, I must say.

Honestly, the outdoor-festival lover in me would’ve been happy to stay outside and watch the game on the giant television that will accommodate those who can’t get inside. But great hockey calls, so I have to run and check out the Whiteout inside the arena as well.

Game on!

Until next time,
Tracey
