TBL@WPG: Scheifele wins it in overtime for the Jets

Thanks to Mark Scheifele, the Winnipeg Jets continued their surge up the NHL standings by ending the Tampa Bay Lightning's eight-game winning streak with a 5-4 overtime victory at Bell MTS Place on Sunday.

The Jets (22-9-2, 46 points) extended their winning streak to five games and moved within six points of the Lightning (25-7-2, 52 points) for first place in the NHL after Scheifele scored with 42 seconds left in overtime.
Winnipeg also moved into first place in the Central Division and tied the Calgary Flames (22-10-2, 46 points)) for first in the Western Conference.
Scheifele had three points (one goal, two assists) and has nine points (four goals, five assists) in his past three games. He is the second player in Jets/Atlanta Thrashers history (Kyle Connor, March 20-23, 2018) to score a regular-season overtime goal in consecutive team games and the second with at least three points in three straight games. Marc Savard had 10 points (one goal, nine assists) for the Thrashers from Nov. 9-12, 2005.

Sabres soaring

Not far behind the Lightning in the Eastern Conference are the Buffalo Sabres, who defeated the Boston Bruins 4-2 at TD Garden for their 20th win. Buffalo (20-9-5, 45 points) has points in four straight games (3-0-1) after an 0-3-2 skid which followed a 10-game winning streak from Nov. 8-27 and moved ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs for second in the Atlantic Division. Buffalo needed 34 or fewer games to reach 20 wins for the 12th time in their history and first since 2009-10 (31 GP; 20-9-2, 42 points).
Sabres forward Jeff Skinner scored his 23rd and 24th goals to move into second in the NHL and equal his 82-game total with the Carolina Hurricanes last season. He is within five of tying Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin (29) for the NHL lead. Skinner scored an NHL career high 37 goals in 79 games for Carolina in 2016-17.

Lucky sevens

The Calgary Flames took a 4-0 lead in the first period en route to a 7-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center. It was the fourth time this season the Pacific Division-leading Flames (22-10-2) scored

. Their 122 goals are second in the NHL behind the Lightning (136) and ahead of the Colorado Avalanche (121).
Calgary also scored at least four goals in a period for the sixth time, the highest total in the NHL. Three teams have done it four times: The Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers.

Fleury, Burns reach milestones

Marc-Andre Fleury earned the 423rd regular-season win of his NHL career when the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the New York Rangers 4-3 in overtime at Madison Square Garden to tie Tony Esposito for
ninth place on the all-time list
. Fleury is 27-15-9 in 52 head-to-head regular-season games against Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, whose 441 wins are seventh all-time.
Brent Burns had three assists for the San Jose Sharks in a 7-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center to reach 600 points in the NHL (186 goals, 414 assists in 995 games). Burns is the
38th NHL defenseman
and second active defenseman (Zdeno Chara, 632 points in 1,441 games) to achieve the milestone.
