Dustin Tokarski made a career-high 45 saves, including 19 in the third period, as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 on Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena.
The Penguins dominated the third period, outshooting the Sabres 20-3 and Tokarski was there to shut the door, especially late.
Colin Miller and Kyle Okposo scored for Buffalo. Mller leads Sabres defensemen with nine points (2+7).

Jake Guentzel was Pittsburgh's goal scorer. Tristan Jarry stopped 17 shots.
Tokarski's pervious high was 44 saves, set last season on April 1 against the Rangers.
Buffalo's power play finished 0-for-5 and the penalty kill was 3-for-4 on the night.

How it happened

No goals were scored in the first period and the Sabres wasted no time getting on the board in the second.

BUF@PIT: Miller gets Sabres on board

Drake Caggiula threw a pass up the boards from behind the Penguins net to Miller, who one-timed it in 28 seconds into the second period to open the scoring.

BUF@PIT: Okposo scores in 2nd period

The Sabres extended their lead at the 8:54 mark when Okposo redirected in a shot by Zemgus Girgensons past Jarry.
Buffalo had an early power play in the third period and Tokarski had to be on his game. He stoned Teddy Blueger on a shorthanded breakaway to preserve the 2-0 lead.
A few minutes later, on another Sabres power play, Tokarski came up big with a top on Brock McGinn
Pittsburgh finally broke through when Guentzel redirected in the puck with his skate 5:59 into the third.
From there, the Penguins kept the pressure on and Buffalo was able to hang on, in no small part to Tokarski's heroics.
