1.Luukkonen impressed during his stint with the Sabres last season, posting a .917 save percentage in nine starts before an injury forced him to the sidelines and later to Rochester.
Adams said the priority for Luukkonen this season is to play consistent minutes, regardless of whether he is in Buffalo or Rochester.
"It's more about starts," Adams said when camp opened. "It's less about where he gets his minutes and more about him getting his minutes and I truly believe that because, you know, he's had some challenges with injuries and just getting himself into that rhythm of having that foundation to build on.
"And what I've talked to him about is we believe in him, we believe in 100 percent. He's going to be a very good National Hockey League goalie, but what we want to do is when he's here, he's ready."
2.Luukkonen echoed Adams when asked about his approach to camp.
"As he said, it's about the starts and becoming a better goalie, but I think, most of all, especially in the camp, focusing every day and give your best every day and that's about all you can do," Luukkonen said. "Right now, that's the biggest thing."
3. Luukkonen began working with a new goalie coach this offseason and focused heavily on his skating, an aspect of his game he feels is improved through the early part of camp.
"Kinda just working on some details and sticking to those, and it reflected today," he said. "It seems to be working."
Don Granato described the differences he's seen in Luukkonen.
"He's maybe more fit for the position or increased his fitness positionally," the Sabres coach said. "And he's able to move through practice with a higher workload and move through a game with a higher workload. He holds his positions better and we saw that through the duration of the game today."
4. Quinn matched Thompson for the team lead with five shots in 17:21. He now has two goals in three preseason games.
5. Matt Savoie played his third preseason game, centering a line with Anders Bjork and Vinnie Hinostroza. He finished with two shots in 10:22 of action.
Granato said Friday that Savoie had earned at least a third preseason game.
"There's so many things to be excited about," Granato said. "I think the more experienced we can immerse him in while he is here, the better and faster he will acclimate."
6. The Sabres have a day off on Sunday. They will have a significantly smaller group when they return for practice on Monday, by which time several players will report to Rochester for the start of Amerks camp.
Granato expressed his happiness with what he saw from all of the players to this point.
"I think all of the guys that we've seen through camp at some point or another through their career are going to have a chance to help us win games," he said.
