The Buffalo Sabres' past five games had gone into overtime. They didn't need the extra time on Monday, however, to beat the Chicago Blackhawks in dramatic fashion.
Down 4-0 early in the second period, Buffalo rallied back to tie the game in the third period, only to see the game slip away again. However, Alex Tuch scored to tie things up with 2:14 remaining in regulation and Tage Thompson was credited with the winner with only 10.6 seconds to play in Buffalo's 6-5 victory at United Center.
Victor Olofsson scored twice for Buffalo and recorded the first three-point game of his career. Along with Tuch and Thompson, Kyle Okposo and Vinnie Hinostroza also potted goals.
Dustin Tokarski made 17 saves to pick up the win.
Calvin de Haan, Sam Lafferty, Jonathan Toews, Seth Jones and Alex DeBrincat scored for Chicago. Kevin Lankinen stopped 31 shots.
The game marked Buffalo's first win in Chicago since January 10, 2007.
The last time Buffalo trailed by four goals and won was back on January 21, 1989 at Boston. The Sabres beat the Bruins 6-5 in overtime.
Buffalo is now 8-3-2 during the month of March.

How it happened

The Sabres found themselves down 3-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Chicago took the lead 7:53 into the game when de Haan one-timed a shot in from the right faceoff dot high glove.
Then with 6:16 left, Lafferty deflected in a point shot by Jake McCabe. And with 3:05 remaining in the first period, Toews dangled his way through traffic to backhand a shot in to put Chicago ahead by three.
Jones ripped home a shot from the slot 1:21 into the second period to extend Chicago's lead.
Then Buffalo went on a run to make it 4-3 in the second period.

With 5:28 left, Buffalo got within one when an effort in front by Dylan Cozens went off the skates of both Okposo and Chicago defenseman Erik Gustafsson.

The Sabres completed the comeback 2:39 into the third period as a shot from the point by Casey Fitzgerald was blocked by McCabe, but the puck found its way to Hinostroza, who knocked it in to tie the game 4-4.
Chicago regained the lead with 9:04 to play when DeBrincat scored on the power play from a tough angle.

Tuch made it 5-5 when he redirected a pass from Olofsson in with 2:14 left in regulation.
Buffalo kept the pressure on and went on the power play with 1:09 to after Skinner was hooked by Dylan Strome.
Then with 10.6 seconds remaining, Thompson broke his stick on a shot, and the puck went off the end boards straight out and into the net off Lankinen's skate on the carom.
