The Buffalo Sabres opened their three-game road trip with a 6-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday at Rogers Place.
Craig Anderson made 30 saves. Victor Olofsson scored Buffalo's lone goal.
For Edmonton, Connor McDavid, Kailer Yamamoto and Tyson Barrie each recorded a goal and an assist, and Leon Draisaitl scored his 40th goal of the season. Darnell Nurse and Devin Shore also tallied.
Mike Smith stopped 27 shots.
Buffalo's power play finished 0-for-1 - giving up a shorthanded goal during that lone opportunity - and the team went 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

How it happened

The Oilers struck first 7:21 into the game when, setting up quickly in the Sabres zone, McDavid drew two defenders to him and then sent a backhand feed to Yamamoto, who fired it in for his 15th goal of the season.
McDavid then won a battle in front with 6:50 left in the first to tuck the puck home while in tight to make it 2-0.
The Oilers dominated in offensive zone time at the start of the second period and finally converted 8:42 in when Draisaitl pounded in a rebound to put the Oilers up by three.
Nurse's shot through traffic made it 4-0 with 6:18 to go in the second.
Play in the third period proved to be pretty wide open.

BUF@EDM: Olofsson puts Sabres on board

Olofsson snapped Smith's shutout bid when he fired a one-timer from the top of the right faceoff circle in at the 3:21 mark of the third.
However, Edmonton regained its four-goal lead when Shore scored on a shorthanded breakaway 5:58 into the final frame.
With 4:24 left - and 2:43 to go in a 4-minute power play - Barrie scored on a one-timer to make it 6-1.
