At The Final Horn | Sabres rally in 3rd but lose to Blues in St. Louis

The Buffalo Sabres battled back against the St. Louis Blues midway through the third period on Friday when Tage Thompson scored on his career-high eighth shot of the night to tie the game 3-3.
However, the Blues scored immediately after to go back in the lead en route to a 5-3 victory over the Sabres at Enterprise Center.
Dylan Cozens and Kyle Okposo were Buffalo's other goal scorers. Dustin Tokarski stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced.
Jordan Kyrou scored twice for St. Louis while Colton Parayko, Jake Walman and Brayden Schenn also added their names to the scoresheet.
Ville Husso picked up the victory with a 35-save performance.
Buffalo's power play finished 1-for-5 and the team went 2-for-3. The Sabres had not allowed a power-play goal in any of their previous six games.

How it happened

Okposo kept a play live in the Blues zone and it eventually led to Cozens knocking in a rebound of a long-range shot by Rasmus Asplund 1:25 into the game.
Okposo missed Wednesday's game with a non-COVID illness.
The Blues tied things up on the power play 7:06 into the first. Kyrou ripped a one-timer from the slot.
With 5:37 remaining in the opening period, St. Louis took a 2-1 lead when Kyrou deflected in a point shot by Justin Faulk for his 20th goal of the season.
The off-ice officials in the penalty boxes were busy in the first period. Buffalo had three power plays in the opening period while St. Louis had two.

At the 3:27 mark of the second period, Cozens won a draw in the offensive zone and Okposo ended up redirected in a Rasmus Dahlin wrist shot to make it a 2-2 game.
After making a spectacular pad save on Brandon Saad with 35 seconds, Walman pounded in the rebound to put St. Louis up heading into the third period.
Thompson scored on the power play with a wrist shot from the slot with 7:26 left in regulation. The goal is Thompson's 21st of the season and his first against his former club.
But Parayko put St. Louis ahead for good 1:23 later when he knocked in a rebound off the shaft of his stick.
Schenn scored on an empty net with 32.7 seconds remaining.

This leg of the Sabres' five-game road trip concludes on Sunday in Dallas. Faceoff is at 2 p.m. on MSG and WGR 550.
Buffalo will then return home before heading back out on the road for a game in Toronto on Wednesday.
