What happened

Three goals were scored in the first 2:36 of the game, including two in the opening 55 seconds. Buchnevich put the Rangers ahead when he accepted a long stretch pass from Mika Zibanejad and scored on a breakaway 28 seconds in. Reinhart then tied things up, one-timed in a pass in the slot from Victor Olofsson on the rush.
Lafrenière was credited with the goal that put New York up 2-1 when Buchnevich's shot deflected off him and in.
Shesterkin made a pair of great saves on Kyle Okposo in the first period and stoned Jeff Skinner with a glove save midway through the second period.
On the sequence after the save on Skinner, the Rangers worked it up ice to take a 3-1 lead. Kreider used Brandon Montour as a screen and roofed a hard wrist shot over Hutton at the 9:32 mark of the second.
Rieder's point shot beat Shesterkin to make it 3-2 with 3:39 left in the middle frame. Dylan Cozens set up the screen in front that helped lead to the goal.

Worth mentioning

According to @PR_NHL, the Sabres and Rangers exchanging goals in the opening minute marked the first time both teams each scored in the first minute of a regular-season game since Los Angeles (00:16) and Edmonton (00:38) did so on March 26, 2016.

Cozens got into his first career fight 7:11 into the third period. He traded haymakers with Ryan Lindgren behind the Rangers net.
