Victor Olofsson was named to the NHL's All-Rookie Team last season, when he scored 20 goals and 42 points despite appearing in just 54 games.
When all was said and done, he still felt like he had more to give.
"I feel like I just gained a lot of confidence over the year that I had," Olofsson said in May. "I feel like I can hopefully transfer that right into next year and build on it. I think I have a lot more work to do before I consider myself a really good NHL player. I'm just looking forward to the challenge and I'm really excited for next year."
Here is a look at the second-year forward entering 2020-21.

Coming This Season: Victor Olofsson

One big question: What's next at 5-on-5?

Olofsson's lethal shot made him an instant threat for the Sabres on the power play last season. He found a natural home on the right half wall, where he rifled one-timers either fed across by Jack Eichel or from above by Rasmus Dahlin. His first six goals all game with the man advantage.
His first goal at even strength didn't come until Nov. 9, when the Sabres played the Tampa Bay Lightning in Stockholm, Sweden. From that point on, however, he scored nine of his final 14 goals at even strength, a testament to his acclimation to the NHL game.
His linemate, Sam Reinhart, detailed the improvement after the season.
"What I look back on this year and what really impresses me was early on when Jack and I got the chance to play with him, we did not play too well together," Reinhart said. "Maybe the first couple we played well, and then he actually moved away from us for a game or two.
"And then what shocked me and surprised me and really impressed me was how really quickly he learned, his smarts kind of played out and he realized kind of what he needed to do to be that much more effective, and when he came back, obviously he took off. So, just that ability that quick to figure out what wasn't clicking and to be able to change that, he was that much more aggressive on pucks, he wasn't just kind of waiting for the puck to get to him, and he realized that very fast."

That was Olofsson's average ice time last season, third among Sabres forwards. Handling such heavy usage through the grind of an NHL schedule was eye-opening as a rookie, he admitted, but set him up to know where he could improve entering his sophomore campaign.
"I think that's something I've got to learn, just to be at a high level and be a threat all the time throughout an 82-game season," he said after the season.
"I think that's going to be the biggest challenge for me because I feel like I have the capability of scoring a lot of goals. So, I've just got to learn to manage the amount of games. That's my biggest challenge."

Quotable

Olofsson on skating on a line with Eric Staal at camp: "He's just a really, really smart player. You see that he has a ton of experience and it's a great player to play alongside with. He knows everything about the game. If there's any questions I have, he kind of knows it all. So, it's really nice to play with, really."
