Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Quinn underwent surgery to repair his Achilles tendon, general manager Kevyn Adams announced at the conclusion of the 2023 NHL Draft on Thursday.

Quinn sustained the injury during an offseason training workout. He is expected to make a full recovery.

"It was tough news obviously to get for Jack, first of all, and us. He's a really important player in our lineup," Adams said. "…He'll come back better and stronger than ever. It's adversity; it's a bump in the road for him. But with the type of mindset he has, I have no worries about how he'll come out the other side of it."

The door could be open for prospects like Jiri Kulich or Matt Savoie to see NHL action sooner than later with Quinn set to miss an unspecified amount of time at the start of the season. The injury news could also impact how the Sabres approach the opening of unrestricted free agency on Saturday.

"For us, it's trying to make sure we're putting a team that's deep on the ice. Fortunately, we are, especially up front," Adams said. "I don't know if it changes anything, but, for sure, it's something we'll be thinking about over the next 48 hours and evaluating."

Last season, Quinn, 21, finished with 14 goals and 37 points in 75 games.
