Owen Power became the first Canadian defenseman in World Juniors history to record a hat trick during Canada's tournament-opening 6-3 victory over Czechia on Monday.
Power, the first-overall pick by the Sabres in this year's NHL Draft, is playing in his first World Junior Championship. He won a gold medal at the men's World Championship in May.

Power buried a wrist shot from above the left faceoff circle for his first goal, which cut an early two-goal deficit in half during the first period:

His next goal came on a 5-on-3 power play. Power rotated to the right faceoff circle and dropped to one knee as he let go of a one-timer:

He finished off the hat trick on another 5-on-3 advantage, this time drifting low toward the goal line to clean up a loose puck:

The hockey world offered reactions to the historic feat on social media.
