What happened

Carter completed his hat trick by the 4:36 mark of the second period to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead. Caggiula responded with his second of the night just 37 seconds later, taking advantage of a strong net-front presence from rookie Brett Murray and burying a shot from the left of the net.

The Penguins finished with a 48-27 edge in shot attempts and an 11-3 advantage in high-danger chances at 5-on-5, according to Natural Stat Trick.

• Houser grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, about an hour north of Pittsburgh, and moved to the Steel City when he was about 11 years old. He had a suite a family and friends in attendance for his first NHL road game.
