Buffalo Sabres prospects Matt Savoie and Scott Ratzlaff have been selected to Canada’s roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, Hockey Canada announced Wednesday.
The tournament will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
Savoie and Ratzlaff join forwards Jiri Kulich (Czechia), Noah Ostlund (Sweden), and Anton Wahlberg (Sweden) as Sabres prospects who have been officially named to their countries’ rosters.
Defensemen Maxim Strbak (Slovakia) and Norwin Panocha (Germany) are included on preliminary rosters, but neither country has released its final group for the tournament.
Savoie, the ninth-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, has 24 points (11+13) in just 11 games since joining the Wenatchee Wild of the Western Hockey League in November. His average of 2.18 points per game leads the WHL.
Ratzlaff, a fifth-round draft pick by the Sabres in 2023, has an .889 save percentage in 20 games with Seattle of the WHL.
