20211018 Portillo Prospects Update

Sabres.com will put the spotlight on a few prospects each week in our Prospects Update. This week, we'll focus on Erik Portillo, Filip Cederqvist, Isak Rosen and Owen Power.
The No. 3 Michigan Wolverines knocked off No. 5 Minnesota Duluth and No. 1 Minnesota State last weekend to win the 2021 Ice Breaker Tournament.
Erik Portillo, Buffalo's third-round pick in 2019, started both games and made a combined 55 saves on 58 shots (.948 save percentage). Portillo is 4-0-0 on the season with a .929 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.

Portillo was excellent between the pipes, especially during Saturday's championship game against Minnesota State. With the game tied midway through the third, the 6-foot-6 Swedish netminder recovered nicely from a hiccup behind the net to make a big save.

Michigan eventually scored with 4:20 left in the third to win.

Sophomore defenseman Owen Power, the top pick by Buffalo in the 2021 NHL Draft, recorded an assist in Friday's 5-1 win over Minnesota Duluth and logged an even rating and one blocked shot in Saturday's win over Minnesota State.
The Wolverines will play a home-and-home set against Western Michigan this weekend. They'll host the Broncos on Friday and travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday. Friday's game will air on B1G+.

UPDATE (2 p.m.):Michigan is now ranked No. 1 in the country.
