OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has signed defenceman Erik Brannstrom to a one-year contract. The contract has a value of $2M for the 2023-24 National Hockey League season.

Brannstrom, 23, established new career highs in assists (16), points (18) penalty minutes (38) and games (74) with the Senators in 2022-23 while tying for the team-lead with a career-best plus-five plus/minus rating.

"Erik took a big step forward last season," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "Over the year's second half of games especially, he demonstrated a strong ability to raise his game to the level where he's using his confidence as an asset. We're happy to have him under contract for another year."

A native of Eksjo, Sweden, Brannstrom will enter the 2023-24 season having skated in 190 contests for the Senators and for his NHL career over which he has recorded 49 points (four goals, 45 assists) and 109 penalty minutes.

Internationally, Brannstrom helped Sweden to a silver medal at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., by ranking second among team defenceman with four points (one goal, three assists) while skating in each of the team's seven tournament games.
