News release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has signed forward Oskar Pettersson to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Pettersson, 19, made his Swedish Hockey League (SweHL) debut in 2022-23 with Rogle BK, registering two points (one goal, one assist) and 33 penalty minutes over 29 regular-season games. He also skated in seven of the team's nine post-season contests, over which he was held scoreless, while accruing two penalty minutes.

"Oskar has quickly become one of the organization's top prospects," said Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He had a strong first pro season and showcases a similar maturity level to players who are much older than he. A north/south winger who has demonstrated that he's capable of playing in all situations, he routinely utilizes his speed to effectively cycle the puck. He's a smart player with good habits; his work ethic alone is certain to be of considerable value to him as he strives to take the next step."

A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Pettersson spent the entirety of his junior career with Rogle BK Jr. (Swe-Jr.) and led his team in goals in both 2020-21 and 2021-22 with 25 and 23, respectively. He ultimately tallied 69 points (48 goals, 21 assists) and 59 penalty minutes over 70 career Swe-Jr. games.

Selected by the Senators with the team's first third-round pick (72nd overall), Pettersson is the third member of the team's 2022 draft class to be signed by Ottawa. He is expected to attend the team's upcoming annual development camp ahead of skating for Rogle BK once again next season.
