Ryan O'Rourke CMS

ST. PAUL -- With its second of two second-round picks (No. 39 overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft, the Wild selected defenseman Ryan O'Rourke.

Here is a look at O'Rourke's stats:
Height: 6-0
Weight:178 pounds
Shoots: Left
Hometown: Pickering, Ontario
2019-20 team:Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League
NHL Central Scouting rank: 27th among North American skaters
NHL.com scouting report: Captain of the Soo Greayhounds. Strong skater with good mobility. Excellent compete level makes him hard to play against. Two-way defender with offensive upside and strong defending. Logs plenty of ice time in all situations.
FC Hockey scouting report:O'Rourke is a missile on the ice and constantly engaged in the play. While his skating is slightly above average and he has a smooth stride, his biggest downfall is his acceleration and foot speed from a stand-still. That said, he can keep up with the play and doesn't get beat to pucks often, but when in a foot race with a speedier forward, he relies on cutting into the forwards path, which could lead to interference calls against him. He doesn't shy away from throwing his body around and using it as an asset despite his thin frame. He will be more effective in this method as he adds weight. His hockey sense is strong as he seems to know where he has support and when he can take a chance.
On O'Rourke: "Ryan is another strong skater, two-way defender with great character and grit," said Judd Brackett, the Wild's Director of Amateur Scouting.
