Bio

Alexander Nylander

Nylander's father, Michael Nylander, played 15 seasons in the NHL, and older brother William Nylander is a forward with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Buffalo Sabres selected Alex, a forward, with the No. 8 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft after he scored 28 goals and 75 points in his only season with Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League. The Sabres signed him July 15, 2016, and after playing most of the 2016-17 season for Rochester of the American Hockey League, Nylander made his NHL debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 3, 2017.

Nylander scored his first NHL goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning on April 6, 2018 after playing most of the season with Rochester. He scored 12 goals for Rochester in 2018-19 before getting a longer look from the Sabres and scoring twice in 12 games.

Buffalo traded Nylander to the Chicago Blackhawks on July 9, 2019. Chicago gave Nylander his father's old No. 92 and a regular role during the 2019-20 season, and he responded by scoring 10 goals and 26 points in 65 games.

Nylander began 2021-22 on injured reserve and missed the first half of the season. The Blackhawks traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 5, 2022. He was then traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Feb. 22, 2024, scored his first NHL hat trick in a 6-3 win against the Vegas Golden Knights at Nationwide Arena on March 4.

Nylander signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Maple Leafs on Nov. 22, 2024.
