Story of the Day

The Capitals host the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Capital One Arena for the team’s final home game of the regular season. Sunday’s game marks the second half of a home-and-home back-to-back set between the two teams. The Capitals, who were without Alex Ovechkin and Jakob Chychrun, fell to the Blue Jackets 7-0 on Saturday at Nationwide Arena. Washington leads the season series 2-1-0. The Capitals are 36-14-1-6 all-time versus Columbus and 12-2-1 in their last 15 games against the Blue Jackets dating back to the 2019-20 season.

The Capitals conclude the home portion of their regular season schedule tonight. The Capitals are 8-1-0 in their last nine home games and have a record of 26-8-6 at Capital One Arena this season. Washington’s 26 home wins are tied for the eighth most in the NHL and mark the most by a Capitals team since 2017-18 (28-11-2). The Capitals, who clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference on Thursday, have secured home ice advantage for at least the first three rounds of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Tonight is Fan Appreciation Night presented by Bud Light at Capital One Arena. From 4 - 6 p.m., fans are invited to a Fan Appreciation Block Party at District E featuring food and drink specials, giveaways, and prizes. The Fan Appreciation Block Party is free and open to the public and also features the Washington, D.C.-based band, Legal in the District. All fans attending tonight’s game will receive an Art of Words Fan Appreciation poster.

The evening will conclude with the team’s “Jerseys Off Our Backs” ceremony, as each Capitals player will autograph and present a jersey to pre-selected fans following the conclusion of the game. Monumental Sports Network will air the ceremony, with select players joining Capitals reporter Al Koken for one-on-one interviews following the ceremony.
