Community Outreach

AYP's vision is to empower children and their families with healthy living skills by providing programs for children ages 6-12 within the community that encourage the development of effective living skills, pursuit of healthy lifestyle choices, and connection of families to the community. AYP has been a stable presence in the North East communities of Edmonton since 1984.

AboutFace was established in 1985 to support individuals and families affected by facial difference. Their work focuses on psychosocial support through programs and services like Camp Trailblazers, Family Camps, scholarships and community events to build support systems. They also work closely with the Craniofacial and Plastic Surgery Teams at the Stollery Children's Hospital to undertake outreach to children and their families. Their mission is to promote and enhance the emotional and mental well-being of individuals with facial differences and their families through social and peer support, information, educational programs, and public awareness.

AdaptAbilities is an Edmonton-based, not-for-profit organization that helps individuals with special needs develop essential life skills they need to grow, succeed and belong. Their human rights approach not only focuses on our participants but also on their families who have altered their work-life balance to become caregivers. Adaptabilities helps individuals with special needs develop essential life skills they need to grow, succeed and belong. They provide programs seven days a week, and since inception have supported more than 2,000 individuals. They are experiencing unprecedented growth, having recently opened a third respite care centre in Edmonton.

B's Supporting Youth Foundation feeds impoverished youth in Edmonton Public and Catholic schools by offering a peer-lead lunch program every Tuesday during the school year. The Lunch Program is a peer-led initiative which sees students from Edmonton schools preparing and delivering lunches to their peers in both school divisions. Their kids-helping-kids approach assists in the development of ethical and community-minded youth and ensures that a healthy lunch is accessible to students in need, removing barriers to their success.

Camp He Ho Ha provides adapted residential recreational summer camps to children and adults living with physical and/or mental disabilities at its fully modern year-round barrier-free facility. Through their summer camps and programs, people of all ages with varying types and levels of disability form lasting friendships with other campers just like them and accomplish things that they may have never thought possible before. With nearly 60 years of proven success Camp He Ho Ha Councillors and staff have adapted activities and helped empower thousands of campers to build friendships, increase their sense of independence and belonging and experience a fun active lifestyle in a safe environment.

Edmonton Public Schools Foundation follows one main philosophy - to give children the start they need to succeed and reach their life's full potential by helping them break free from the learning barriers that could hold them back. Evansdale School is located in North Edmonton and supports families that are new to Canada. The majority of students are English language learners and refugees. As such, many have never experienced winter before, so funds will be used to give students access to winter activities and field trips.

The Excel Society houses, supports, and enriches the lives of people living with a disability or complex mental health diagnosis. They directly support youth, adults and seniors in their day programming, in 35 group homes, and in designated assisted living facilities in Edmonton.

The Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Education Foundation oversees the Grande Prairie Schools Snack Program. The Snack Program provides a nutritious breakfast, fresh fruit snacks and emergency lunches to 10 elementary/junior high schools and 3 high schools, reaching close to over 5,000 students.

Hope Mission's mission and mandate is to serve, strengthen and uplift men, women, youth and children. Basic and emergency care are provided to over 800 people daily as well as counsel and referral services for men, women, and youth. Each day Hope Mission provides over 1000 meals, and shelter for over 500 people. Specialized care and treatment is offered for men and women through faith-based addiction treatment programs. Hope Mission also facilitates an after school recreation and hot meal program for children, summer camps for inner-city children and youth and operates a year-round Youth Sports Centre.

WINGS operates a second stage shelter and affordable housing for women with children who are leaving situations of family violence. The facilities provide long-term accommodation and accompanying support services for women and their children. Their mission is to provide comprehensive transitional programs and independent living in a safe, secure, supportive and healthy environment for women with children who have experienced family violence.

The Young Alberta Book Society's mission is to promote literacy and a love of literature among young people in Alberta by providing access to Alberta's literary artists and their works. YABS has brought together a diverse pool of talented Albertan authors, illustrators and storytellers who dedicate themselves to enriching the lives of children and youth through the literary arts. Low literacy is linked to poverty, crime, disadvantage, and exclusion. Literacy is the foundation for a lifetime of learning, communicating, academic success, and meaningful employment. YABS strives to give Alberta's children and youth the basis for the quality of life they deserve. Every child in Alberta, regardless of location or socio-economic status, should experience the joy of reading and writing.
