Season in Review

In just its second year of existence, the Rangers captured its first Stanley Cup in 1928 by disposing of the Montreal Maroons in five games. 

Rangers legend Frank Boucher, along with brothers Bill and Bun Cook led the way offensively, with Boucher amassing 35 points in 44 games. Bun Cook finished the regular season with 28 points, while Bill Cook had 18 goals in 43 contests.

Netminder Lorne Chabot appeared in all 44 games that season, finishing with 19 wins and a 1.74 goals against with 11 shutouts.

The Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in the quarter-final by out-scoring them, 6-4. Next up the Blueshirts defeated Boston by 5-2 in goals. The Rangers capped off the postseason with a win over the Montreal Maroons in five games to capture the Stanley Cup.

Boucher finished the postseason with a team-high 10 points in nine games, including seven goals. It was goaltending by committee in the playoffs, as youngster Joe Miller secured two wins while Chabot had two of his own. Head coach Lester Patrick skated in a game as well, picking up a win.
