Red Wings Last Game: 6-4 Win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, December 12

Last Time Out

  • The Canes finally snapped a four-game skid on Tuesday in Ottawa. After allowing the first goal in the opening frame, the group scored four unanswered to take control of the game in the second. Sebastian Aho led the way with three points and Pyotr Kochetkov turned in his best performance of the season, stopping a season-high 31.

Orlov Stringing Them Together

  • Dmitry Orlov earned an assist against the Senators on Tuesday to extend his season-long assist streak to three games. He has posted just two longer assist streaks in his NHL career: Five games with Washington from 3/10/19-3/19/19 (5a) and four games with Boston from 2/27/23-3/4/23 (3g, 6a). Orlov now ranks tied for fifth on the team and third among Hurricanes defensemen with 11 assists in 2023-24.

From The Blue Line

  • Orlov's apple was one of five contributed by a Canes defenseman on Tuesday, as at least four of Carolina’s blueliners earned a point in the same game for the eighth time this season and the fourth time in the last seven games.  The team has now produced 78 of Carolina's 254 points this season, tied with the Colorado Avalanche for the most percentage of their points coming from blueliners (30.7%).

Start On Time

  • The Red Wings are 8-0-0 when leading after one period of play this season.

In Net

  • Kochetkov was very good on Tuesday in Canada's capital, as the only puck that beat him all night was a redirection in front. The team has gone every other game with the 24-year-old and Antti Raanta since December 2, but it is possible that Kochetkov's work has earned him the green light for a second consecutive game. Regardless of which way Rod Brind'Amour and staff elect to go, both goaltenders will be needed over the next 24 hours, as the team plays tomorrow night against Nashville as well.

On The Other Side

  • Entering Thursday's play, Detroit's 106 goals scored this season are the most by any Eastern Conference team. Like the Canes, the Red Wings get a lot of scoring from their blue line, just one point behind Carolina for the conference lead with 77 points by defensemen. Another parallel is that the team also has a sub-.900 save percentage from their netminders, currently ranking 20th with a .895.

Injury Updates

  • Goaltender Frederik Andersen is sidelined indefinitely after the team announced on November 6 that he is dealing with a blood clotting issue.
  • Forward Andrei Svechnikov will be "out for at least a while" after suffering an upper-body injury on December 4.

What Are We Wearing?

  • The team will be wearing their white sweaters tonight. A complete uniform schedule for the season can be found here.

What's Next After Tonight?

  • The Canes team will fly home immediately post-game.  They are scheduled to get right back in action on home ice against the Predators on Friday.
