Carolina hadn't lost since Feb. 25, 3-1 at Tampa Bay.
"I don't think we were under any pressure," Hurricanes forward Martin Necas said. "It's way worse when you are on a losing streak."
Bernier is 8-6-0 this season.
"He has been amazing for us," Erne said. "He's super solid every game and he gives us a chance to win."
Niederreiter gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead at 2:21 of the first, tapping in Jesper Fast's pass for a power-play goal.
"We had a good start, but that's not good enough," Niederreiter said. "Sometimes you get a little too satisfied. The more you win, the more teams want to beat you, and they outworked us tonight."
