DeBrincat lifts Blackhawks over Kings in shootout

LOS ANGELES --Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane each had a goal and an assist for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 4-3 shootout win against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday.

DeBrincat scored in the shootout for the Blackhawks (24-32-9), who swept back-to-back games after defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 on Wednesday.
"As a team, we're trying to form this identity of how we want to play and how we want to be moving forward, so I think these past few games, pretty good," DeBrincat said. "It shows us we can keep working hard, chances are going to come and we're just going to bury them. It's nice to win some games again, and hopefully we can keep going."

Collin Delia, who was born in Rancho Cucamonga, California, made 43 saves to get his first win since May 6, when he made 36 saves in a 2-1 overtime victory at the Carolina Hurricanes.
"It's hard to put into words. It's really cool," Delia said. "To be from this area, growing up watching Kings-Ducks, especially Jonathan Quick and, you know, get to compete with some really good company and come out victorious, definitely a memorable experience."
Phillip Danault had two goals, and Trevor Moore scored a shorthanded goal for the second straight game for the Kings (35-22-9). Sean Durzi had three assists, and Quick made 28 saves.
"We had a strong start and we got down a little bit, and then we pick it up and we came back in the third, and that was a huge point," Danault said. "Obviously, we didn't get the finish we wanted."
Danault put in his own rebound to tie it 3-3 at 9:07 of the third period, his fourth goal in the past four games. Viktor Arvidsson, who returned after missing eight games because of a lower-body injury, had the primary assist.

It was Danault's 21st goal, extending his career high. He had never scored more than 13 goals in his first seven seasons with the Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens.
Kings coach Todd McLellan credited Danault's positioning in and around the crease for his increased scoring.
"He has a knack for stick on puck, and he may be one of the best players I've seen at positioning his body so that he can keep plays alive," McLellan said. "… He's got something that we'd like to teach all the players, so we may have to pick his brain all summer."
Sam Lafferty gave Chicago a 3-2 lead at 18:09 of the second period, beating Quick with a backhand from close range.
"I think confidence just continues to grow and grow," Lafferty said. "We want to continue to take steps not only for our careers but also for the sake of the team. I think everyone is really hungry right now to prove something and we're doing it collectively, so that's a good thing."
Kane scored his 21st goal at 16:44 of the first period to give Chicago a 1-0 lead. DeBrincat's shot from the point caromed off the boards to Kane, who put a sharp-angle shot in over a sprawling Quick.

Danault tied it 2-2 at 16:50, backhanding the rebound of Anze Kopitar's shot in between Delia's legs on a power play.
"I thought we did a good job of responding when they scored and not giving up too much," DeBrincat said. "Delia made the stops when he needed to. And luckily, we came up with a win."
