DET@ARI: Keller picks up loose puck on backdoor

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Clayton Keller scored 25 seconds into overtime to give the Arizona Coyotes a 2-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Gila River Arena on Saturday.

Keller's initial shot was saved by Alex Nedeljkovic, but Jakob Chychrun's rebound attempt bounced out to Keller near the right post for a shot into an open net.
The goal was reviewed to determine if Phil Kessel interfered with Nedeljkovic while the goalie was scrambling to get back into position, but the call was upheld.
"They all reviewed it and they felt differently, and I get it," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "It's not a black and white rule. There's always going to be some discretion. But in the end, we had a breakdown that led to that, and I'm more worried about the breakdown."
Keller became emotional discussing his third NHL overtime goal, which came on the night the Coyotes hosted the annual Hockey Fights Cancer game.
"It was a tough night for me, I lost my grandfather to cancer, and I wouldn't be here without him," Keller said. "So it definitely was a special one."
Scott Wedgewood made 33 saves, and Ryan Dzingel scored the tying goal in the third period for the Coyotes (3-13-2), who are 2-0-1 in their past three games.
"We played hard, we stuck with it, we got pucks to the net and it was good to get one," Keller said. "It's a huge win for us."

DET@ARI: Larkin dekes backhand, forehand to score

Dylan Larkin scored, and Nedeljkovic made 27 saves for the Red Wings (8-9-3), who were 0-3-1 on a four-game road trip (outscored 17-8).
"I think we consciously tried to be better defensively, we were better in some areas defensively, but you got to find a way to score that next goal and make it to 2-0 without giving anything up," Blashill said. "We've got to find a way to sustain pressure without taking on needed risk."
Larkin gave Detroit a 1-0 lead at 8:41 of the first period on a short breakaway set up by Lucas Raymond's lead pass from the neutral zone. Larkin has seven points (five goals, two assists) during a five-game point streak.
"I liked our swagger starting the season, we played hard and we played confident, but this road trip we haven't been confident, and you saw that tonight," Larkin said. "With a one-goal lead (in the third period), we've got to be a more confident hockey team."
Detroit had an opportunity to extend the lead during two power plays 36 seconds apart in the second period, but couldn't convert.
"I thought we had some good looks, we hit some posts, but we just didn't capitalize," Larkin said. "We've got to capitalize and close that one out."

DET@ARI: Dzingel redirects a blue line shot bar down

Dzingel tied it 1-1 at 13:31 of the third, setting up in the slot to redirect Cam Dineen's shot. Dzingel's goal was his second in as many games after he scored two in his previous 27 games. Dineen's assist was his first NHL point in his seventh game.
Wedgewood, who has made 75 saves in his past two games, needed on-ice medical attention during the second Red Wings power play when he was struck in the collarbone by a Robby Fabbri shot, but stayed in the game.
"The group's got some confidence right now, we're getting some points and that's huge for the group," Wedgewood said.
The Coyotes were 0-9-1 when they claimed Wedgewood off waivers from the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 4. He is 3-1-1 with a 2.04 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in six games (four starts) since joining them.
"He's been unbelievable," Keller said. "He's kept us in every single game. He's playing amazing."
NOTES:Larkin has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 10 games against Arizona. … The Red Wings haven't allowed a power-play goal in eight games (19-for-19 on the penalty kill). … Arizona has scored the second-fewest goals in the NHL (32; New York Islanders 31). … Kessel has four points (one goal, three assists) in a four-game point streak and 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in his past eight games against Detroit.
