DET@DAL: Khudobin, Gurianov combine to win shootout

Roope Hintz had a goal and an assist for the Dallas Stars in a 3-2 shootout win against the Detroit Red Wings at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Monday.

Miro Heiskanen had two assists, and Anton Khudobin made 20 saves for Dallas (18-14-12), which has won three games in a row and is 5-0-2 in its past seven. Jason Robertson and Denis Gurianov scored in the shootout.
"I would have preferred to win in regulation, but we'll take any kind of win right now," Stars coach Rick Bowness said. "We desperately need points."
Luke Glendening scored twice, Alex Biega had two assists, and Thomas Greiss made 34 saves for Detroit (16-24-7), which is 3-1-1 in its past five games. Dylan Larkin scored in the shootout.
"I thought we competed hard against one of the best defensive teams in the League," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "They are hard to create against, and if you try to force things, they are going to score in transition."

DET@DAL: Glendening deflects a shot in front for 2nd

Dallas is in fifth place in the eight-team Discover Central Division, three points behind the fourth-place Nashville Predators with three games in hand. The top four teams will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It was the first of four straight games in six days between the teams. They play again Tuesday in Dallas, then Thursday and Saturday in Detroit.
"This is definitely exciting because we're down to our last couple games at home, and every point matters," Robertson said. "We play these guys again three more times, and we have to try to build on what we did in the third period tonight."
Dallas came into the game with an NHL-high 12 losses after regulation, including a 1-6 record in shootouts.
"Getting this win is honestly a huge relief," Robertson said. "Everyone in this locker room has been disappointed by the points we've left on the table in overtime and especially the shootout."
Hintz gave Dallas a 1-0 lead at 15:50 of the first period with a power-play goal. He has three goals and 10 assists in his past six games.

Glendening tied it 1-1 at 7:45 of the second period, knocking in a rebound with a backhand for his first goal in 19 games.
Robertson scored off the rebound of a Hintz shot to give the Stars a 2-1 lead at 11:06.
Glendening tipped Biega's point shot to tie the game 2-2 at 16:55 of the second.
"I haven't gotten many goals this year or last year, so getting two tonight was a nice way to help the team," Glendening said. "We know we're going to have three more games like this, and we have to find a way to be a little better."
NOTES:Dallas defenseman John Klingberg had an assist to extend his point streak to five games (one goal, five assists). … Robertson has six points (two goals, four assists) during a four-game point streak. … It was Glendening first two-goal game since Jan. 22, 2019, and his fourth in 545 NHL games.

Hintz has a goal and an assist in a shootout victory
