Vrana nets 2, Red Wings hold off Lightning in 4-3 win

TAMPA --Steven Stamkos had three assists to tie Martin St. Louis for the most points in Tampa Bay Lightning history, but the Detroit Red Wings won 4-3 at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.

Stamkos, who was selected by Tampa Bay with the No. 1 pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, has 953 points (472 goals, 481 assists) in 916 games.
"It's [stinks] to have something that special for me to happen in a game we don't win," Stamkos said. "I definitely have 'Marty' on my mind tonight. He means a lot, still means a lot to me and what I have become as a person and as a player."
St. Louis had 953 points (365 goals, 588 assists) in 972 games over 13 seasons with the Lightning from 2000-2014.
"To have your name right up there with the great Marty St. Louis is pretty humbling," Stamkos said. "I remember all the amazing times we had on the ice together and the amazing career that Marty had and what he means to this community."

DET@TBL: Raymond beats Vasilevskiy on rush up ice

Ross Colton scored twice, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves for Tampa Bay (46-22-8), which lead the Boston Bruins by one point for third place in the Atlantic Division.
Jakub Vrana scored twice, and Thomas Greiss made 38 saves for the Red Wings (30-37-10), who had been outscored 10-1 in their previous two games.
After Colton tied it 3-3 on a one-timer 43 seconds into the third period, Vrana forced a turnover by Mikhail Sergachev at the blue line and beat Vasilevskiy on a breakaway to put Detroit back in front 4-3 at 5:09.
"He played as complete a hockey game as he's played all year for us," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "I thought he was excellent in every facet of the game. He checked great, he worked hard, he won battles, he was good on the wall.
"I think that's a little personified by the breakaway goal. He does a good job defensively and then goes down and scores."
Colton gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 3:58 of the second period. Stamkos received a touch pass by Ondrej Palat, split the defense, and passed back to Colton in the left circle for a shot into an open net.
Oskar Sundqvist tied it 1-1 at 4:20 with a backhand five-hole in front after Danny DeKeyser's shot produced a rebound.
Vrana gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead at 6:34 with a shot from the right circle.
"I'm trying to create offense here as much as possible to give the team a chance," Vrana said. "There are things that we have to do to get those chances, and that's what we did tonight. We put ourselves in a good position to win the game."

DET@TBL: Vrana puts Detroit up with 2nd goal of game

Raymond extended the lead to 3-1 at 8:17 when he shot five-hole from the right circle following another giveaway by Sergachev.
Nikita Kucherov cut it to 3-2 at 9:47 with a goal seven seconds into a power play.
"It's one of those games that we clearly beat ourselves, and it's becoming a little bit too much of our story " Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "It was odd-mans, breakaways, turnovers ... and it's perplexing why some of these players that have been with us for a while, especially in game 76, are continuing to do this. It's too bad."
