Ekholm gave the Predators a 3-2 lead at 16:31 after circling behind the net and shooting into traffic, where it rebounded off the skate of Seattle defenseman Vince Dunn at the side of the crease.
"It's tough to chase a game in this league, even if you're down by one," Hakstol said. "We had some good looks. For me, the biggest thing is we put ourselves in positions to be in the lead at critical times in this game. For our team, we need to win this hockey game 2-1, 3-1. As we were chasing the game in the third, we had some good looks."
Duchene scored on the power play at 15:51 of the third period to make it 4-2 when he flipped the puck over Grubauer after it had rebounded off the end boards.
"I didn't think it was a perfect game by any means from us, but we find ways to win," Ekholm said. "That's the most important thing, obviously. I think we had moments in the game where we really liked our game. We hemmed them in for long stretches, but they came at us too in their home barn. We got two points and that's the objective."
