Today was a great day, you know. It's obviously special to be a part of something like this and to be around these guys, especially with the pandemic we are dealing with. The NHL did a great job with tonight. It was a ton of fun.
I did the All-Star Game in 2016 (in Nashville) for the first time, but I think I was more nervous this time around because it's been such a long time since we've all been together like that. So, I was nervous, but it was a lot of fun. I can't emphasize enough how much fun tonight was.
I was in the first event, the fastest skater, and that was a challenge. You know, I won it the first time I was at the All-Star Game, but that was a really elite group of skaters this time, with a couple of past winners in there. I was thinking about it all day, the past couple of days. But it was a little difficult to get going, you know? I didn't really feel that good at the start, but that's all part of doing well in that event.
After that, I was part of the save streak event, then I got to be a spectator like everyone else and really enjoy the show.
The breakaway challenge was amazing. That event was so much fun and there were a lot of creative ideas out there and that's really hard to do, trust me. Alex Pietrangelo won, and I thought he did a real good job of working in the hometown [Vegas Knight Line] drummers and playing to the crowd.
Personally, I really liked the Jack Hughes one, with the magic trick and the kid scoring. The Trevor Zegras tribute to "Dodgeball" was cool too; I'm not sure I could do that blindfolded. The Alex DeBrincat one with the [NFL's Las Vegas] Raiders' Derek Carr was cool too. It was all so creative.
Now, it's time to celebrate with my family. I have a few people here and we are going to go out, grab a late dinner and have a great time.
The game tomorrow [against the Central Division] is going to be great. I'm a pretty competitive guy, so I always want to win, but I'm just going to have a good time trying to do that.
I'm not sure who I will be playing with tomorrow. There are so many good players on our team, so you can't really go wrong.
It would be really nice to play with a guy like Jonathan Huberdeau from the Florida Panthers; he can do everything out there and make some incredible plays. Auston Matthews from the Toronto Maple Leafs would be good too. But our team is stocked, so that is really exciting.
I'm really looking forward to playing in the game tomorrow and hopefully winning it to play in the championship.
