Hyman Buzz 2.24

Welcome to the NHL Buzz. Throughout the 2020-21 season, NHL.com will have you covered with the latest news.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Zach Hyman will return to the lineup against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; SN, TVAS, NHL.TV).
The forward did not play in a 3-0 loss to the Flames on Monday because of an undisclosed injury.
Hyman is expected to skate on a line with Mitchell Marner and Auston Matthews.

Boston Bruins

Jeremy Lauzon had surgery to repair a fractured left hand and will be reevaluated in about four weeks.
The defenseman was injured in the first period of a 7-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday at Lake Tahoe. He has three assists in 16 games this season.
"He plays hard. He puts himself in harm's way, so we know sometimes that'll result in injuries for any player like that, but this is tough," coach Bruce Cassidy said Wednesday. "It sounds like it'll be about four weeks or so. So there's lots of hockey left when he gets back."
Urho Vaakanainen
is expected to take Lauzon's place in the lineup at the New York Islanders on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; MSG+, NESN, SN360, SNE, SNO, SNP, NHL.TV).
Cassidy also said defensemen Jakub Zboril (upper body) could play and Matt Grzelcyk (lower body), who is close to returning, will travel. Defenseman Kevan Miller won't travel.
"Like I said, we've got some other young guys," Cassidy said. "We've got some depth that we'll plug in and hopefully keep on trucking here." -- Amalie Benjamin

Pittsburgh Penguins

Mark Friedman was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers and the defenseman is expected to be in the lineup at the Washington Capitals on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+, TVAS, NBCSWA, ATTSN-PT, NHL.TV).
Penguins general manager Ron Hextall was Flyers GM when they selected Friedman in the third round (No. 86) of 2014 NHL Draft. Friedman did not have a point and was minus-2 in four games for Philadelphia this season. He has one assist in 11 NHL games.
Forward Jason Zucker likely won't play Thursday after he was sent back to Pittsburgh for further evaluation of a lower-body injury sustained during a 3-2 overtime win against the Capitals on Tuesday. Zucker was helped off the ice after crashing into the boards in front of the Pittsburgh bench 10:03 into the third period.
Defenseman Juuso Riikola, who has been out since Jan. 19 with an upper-body injury, practiced Wednesday. Forward Jared McCann, who has been out since Feb. 6 with a lower-body injury, practiced in a no-contract jersey.
