Sharks women in teal

Women ran the San Jose Sharks world on Saturday.

The Sharks hosted their annual Women in Teal Night to celebrate Gender Equality Month.
San Jose kicked off the festivities by sporting special warmup jerseys designed by local artist Erin Salazer before their game against the Washington Capitals at SAP Center.
The jerseys feature a drawing of a shark bomb which is based on an old vintage bomber. The roses underneath represent beauty and the paisley design in the background symbolizes women entering the workforce.

"My inspiration for the logo I designed comes from the Frida Kahlo quote that says 'not fragile like a flower, fragile like a bomb,'" Salazer said in a

"And to me, that is such a perfect and beautiful representation of what I wanted to capture with the Sharks."
U.S. Women's Hockey Olympic gold medalist Brianna Decker performed the ceremonial puck drop between Sharks captain Logan Couture and Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin.

Before the game, she also hosted two girls hockey clinics at the Shakrs practice facility.

Sharks Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Sara Salam wrote a poem for the event that was read by San Jose's female staff in a video posted to social media.
